Ohio steps up their fight against Human Trafficking

A week after an Ohio woman was sentenced to 12 months in prison for tricking "hundreds of Eastern European women into taking hotel jobs" only to traffic them into slavery, Ohio Governor Ted Strickland signed a bill making human trafficking a felony.

Thanks for taking a step in the right direction Ohio. Lets keep sending the message that Human Trafficking will not be tolerated.

Law Clinic in Michigan is Leading the Fight Against Human Trafficking

A recent article in USA Today highlights the legal efforts of a 33 year old Michigan law professor named Bridgette Carr who is the director of the Nation's only human trafficking law clinic.

Carr is a great example of the impact that one person can have in the fight against human trafficking. Are you doing your part?

Canada's largest Human Trafficking bust ever...

16 Hungarian slaves were freed last week in Hamilton, Ontario.

According to one Canadian news report, 50% of Human Trafficking victims in Canada are minors and 75% of victims are women.

The Climb for Captives team is leaving for Mt. Rainier in just over a week and they need your help to raise $40,000 to rescue children who are being sold into the sex trade in India. Check out this recent blog post about how a family in British Columbia, Canada is joining in the fight against Human Trafficking.

Garage Sales Save Lives

We have been working hard to promote the Climb for Captives in hopes of raising awareness about Human Trafficking and bringing true, tangible freedom to children who are forced into the sex trade in India. This effort takes a lot of time and a lot of energy from all of us on the Climb for Captives team, but when we hear stories like this we are reminded about the importance of what we are doing and we are inspired to keep pushing forward in hopes that one more life will be saved. Last weekend a Canadian family outside of Vancouver, British Columbia decided to have a garage sale and donate all of the money to Climb for Captives. Their kids began spreading the word around the neighborhood and telling their friends that children around the world are suffering and need help. One little girl, after hearing about the kids in India, went home and sold her pet fish to her brother for $8.15 and promptly donated the money to Climb for Captives. Incredible.

When it was all said and done the family, in addition to raising awareness about the reality and prevalence of Human Trafficking, was able to raise $850 dollars at their garage sale, to help rescue victims in India. Once again, incredible!

Earn your Stripes at New Horizons Ministry Training in Seattle

New Horizons Ministries (www.nhmin.org) was formed in 1978 in response to the growing problems of youth involved in street activity in downtown Seattle. As a multi-cultural organization, their mission is to be in relationship with young people who are homeless and living on the streets, serving, loving, and equipping them to leave street life. Their work has taken them to the darkest corners of Seattle, where literally hundreds of teens have been lured into lives of prostitution.

Come be a part of New Horizon's training-- designed to equip those who want to work with New Horizons or simply know more about the lives of youth living on the street. The training program is open to the public, and is also used by other service agencies throughout the city to train their volunteers and staff. The two all-day training sessions are:

Saturday, September 20th from 8:30am - 4:00pm
Saturday, September 27th from 8:30am - 5:30pm

We had a great evening at the Freemont Abbey on Saturday with Detective Harvey Sloan from the Seattle Police Department. Thanks to the 50+ of you who came out to find out how you can be more involved in making a difference locally. This is just the beginning...
